Short Bio

After getting a degree in theoretical physics at ETH in Zurich, I got a PhD in the group of Prof. P.F. Meier at the University of Zurich. In 1999, I switched to the group of Prof. J. S. McCaskill, where I focused on the dynamics of evolving systems. In 2007, I got a joint position in Rolf Pfeifer's lab in Zurich and at the ECLT in Venice: We focus on IT-aspects in the novel field of living technology. This branch envisages to combine rationally designed engineering with evolved solutions from nature in a bio-inspired but not bio-mimetic manner. In parallel, I engage in medical technology and co-founded two SME in the field of medical engineering and microfluidics: MEDInnovation AG (Zurich) and Protostream GmbH (Dortmund).
